Bobcats Take Two From Bears In Freshman Baseball League Action (06/09/14)

The Clarion Area Freshman Baseball Team won two games against East Forest last week. On Monday the Bobcats traveled to Marienville and won a 12-8 decision. On Thursday, the homestanding Bobcats downed the bears by two runs, 6-4.

Coach Lee Weber named Leo Aiello the Bobcat Player of the Game, for Monday’s contest and Anthony Beveridge received the honor for Thursday’s game.

The Bobcats jumped out to a six run lead in the top of the first, in the game at East Forest and scored six more in the fourth, to take a 12-0 lead. The Bears scored three runs each, in the fifth and sixth innings and two more in the seventh to set the 12-8 final.

Aiello had two hits, driving in 3 runs. He also scored an run. Kaiben Smith stroked a double and drove in two runs, while also scoring a run. Max Lane had a single, an RBI and scored a run. Taylor Smith had 2 hits, 2 RBIs and two runs scored.Thomas Plummer had a single, an RBI and a run scored. Beveridge had a hit, scored a run and stole a base. Derek Lauer also singled. He drove in a run and scored twice. Matt Verne scored twice and Brady Himes stole a base.

East Forest scored two in the top of the first, in the game at Clarion and one in the third, to take a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats came back with three in the bottom of the third to knot the score at 3-all. Clarion scored two in the fourth taking a 5-3 lead. The Bears closed the gap, to 5-4, with a run in the top of the fifth, but the Bobcats closed out the scoring, with two runs in the bottom of the inning, to set the 6-4 final.

Beveridge had three hits, including a triple, for the Bobcats. He drove in a run, scored a run and stole two bases. Aiello had a triple and scored once. Lane had a hit, drove in a run and scored once. Kysaac Smith had a single, scored twice and stole a base. Weber and Zephania Vickers each had a hit and Plummer had an RBI.

Lane went the distance on the mound. He threw 11 strikeouts, and allowed only 2 earned runs. He issued two bases on balls.
