Rotary defeated Lions 7-5, Monday Night, in Clarion Little League action.

Rotary started off slow, as they were held scoreless in the visiting half of the opening frame. Lions however scored 2 runs on a Ben Smith homer to left and led 2-0 after 1 inning.

Rotary continued to struggle at the plate, as Lions starting pitcher Smith struck out the side, in the 2nd, on 17 pitches.
Rotary went to the bullpen and brought in Cal German with 2 men on and no outs, in the bottom of the frame. German got a ground out and 2 strikeouts to end the Lions rally and the game remained 2-0.

Rotary took the lead in the top of the 3rd. Cam LaPinto walked and German singled before Curvin Goheen singled to right. The Lions outfield had a lot of trouble handling the hot grounder and the ball went to the fence. When the ball finally made its way back into the infield, LaPinto, German, and Goheen had all 3 scored, giving Rotary a 3-2 advantage.

Lions regained the lead in the bottom of the frame, when Smith hit his 2nd 2 run homer of the game. At the game’s midpoint, Lions had a 4-3 lead.

LaPinto and German drew lead off walks to start the top of the 4th and both scored on Goheen’s triple to right center. Goheen scored a pitch later on Greg Kalinowski’s RBI single. The next 3 Rotary hitters grounded out, but Rotary took a lead that it would never relinquish and led 6-4 after the half inning.

Lions did score a run in the bottom of the 4th to draw closer. Nick Fredderick walked and stole his way to third, before scoring on an error to give Lions a 5th run. However Rotary answered with an insurance run of their own, when Beau Verdill scored on German’s RBI single, to make the score 7-5.

With 4 outs to go, German gave way to Goheen on the mound, He promptly struck out all 4 batters he faced to earn the save and secure the 7-5 victory for Rotary.
