ABC Youth Football League Season Begins (08/19/14)

The ABC Youth Football League began the 2014 season, with games this past weekend.

They have chapters in 6 Western Pennsylvania counties and have the following teams: A-C Valley Falcons, Brockway Bears, Brookville Lumberjacks, Clarion-Limestone Lions, East Brady Bulldogs, Forest/North Clarion Coyotes, Grove City Little Eagles, Karns City Blue Devils, Moniteau Warriors, Prospect Chiefs, Punxsutawney Chucks, Redbank Valley Bulldogs, Sabula Raiders, Shannock Valley Wolves, Slippery Rock Rockets, and Union Golden Knights.

Football players from Clarion Area are eligible to participate on the Forest/North Clarion, Clarion-Limestone and Union teams.

The ABC League lists objectives on its website: “to teach the basic skills and fundamentals of football. They promote teamwork, sportsmanship and combativeness and to strive to promote and preserve the game of football for young people.”

The League has three Divisions: Bantam – ages 7-8 (no score kept); Junior – ages 9-10; and Senior – ages 11 and 12. There are cheerleading squads for each team.
