Bobcat Football Team Does Very Well In Final Tune-up (08/25/14)

The Clarion Bobcat Varsity Football Team traveled to Wingate, on Friday (08/22/14) to face the West Branch Warriors, in their second and final scrimmage before the 2014 regular season begins.

The Bobcat first team had a very solid performance, with the offense gaining 250 total yards and scoring 5 touchdowns, while the defense held the Warriors to minus 8 total yards.

West Branch had the first offensive series and were pretty much held in check by the Bobcat defense.

Thomas Plummer ran for Clarion’s first touchdown and Brendan Miller converted the PAT. Plummer’s score was followed, several plays later, by a 65-plus touchdown run by Brendan Miller, in the first offensive series. Ian Corbett had two big runs in the series, one for 15 yards and another for around 20 yards. Destin Strauser also caught a 20 yard pass from Brendan Miller.

A Matt Wagner interception ended the Warriors second possession. Then Wagner scored on a 20 yard run.

After the defense stopped West Branch again, Taylor Smith hauled in pass from Brendan Miller for a 30 yard touchdown. West Branch had three plays for minus 10 yards in their next series and punted. Shortly after the Cats took over, Smith hit Strauser with a 15 yard pass and on the next play, Corbett ran for a 40 yard score.

The JVs did well also. Ty Burford scored on a 20 yard pass from Spencer Miller. The two also hooked up for a ten yard completion. Josh Kriebel ran well in the first series with three runs totaling nearly 200 yards, but two of them, a 60 yard TD and a 35 yard run were called back on penalties.

All in all, it was a very good tune-up, as the Cats will take on A-C Valley, at 7PM, Friday night (08/29/14), at CUP’s Veterans’ Memorial Stadium.
