Bobcat Junior High Wrestlers Have Fine Showing In Clarion Tournament (12/25/14)

The Clarion Wrestling Boosters hosted their 23rd Annual Clarion Junior High Tournament on Saturday, December 20th.

175 Wrestlers from 17 schools throughout the region competed in this year’s tournament. In addition to the host Bobcats, the teams involved were: Brockway, Clearfield, Coudersport, Cranberry, Curwensville, Elwood City, Johnsonburg, Kane, Keystone, Marion Center, North Star, Punxsutawney, Port Allegany, Redbank Valley, Smethport and St. Marys.

The Bobcats finished in a fourth place tie, with Clearfield. Both schools scored 33 points. Kane was the Team Champion with 47 points. North Star finished second with 38 points. Marion Center, with 35 points took third.

Thomas Wurster led the Cats, with a 1st place finish at 250. Wurster finished the tournament 5-0, pinning his way through the tournament. His longest match lasted only 42 seconds.

Ben Smith (165) and Frankie Weber (122) and Seth Nellis each finished in 2nd place, with 3-1 records.

Bryce Klawuhn (155) and Korbin Schill (210) also turned in 3-1 performances, with both garnering 3rd place finishes.

Riley Slagle (75), Login Dehner (85), Sterling Conner (130), John Goodman (155) all placed 4th with 2-2 records. Also recording a 2-2 record was John McSwain (165), who finished in 5th place.

Daniel Ketner won 1 match at (115).

It took a number of individuals to make this year’s tournament a success. Coach Lee Weber said, “Thank all parents, coaches, wrestlers, sisters and brothers that helped out to produce another successful tournament!”

This year’s Wrestling Booster Officers are: Bill Bailey – President,Ron Rapp – Vice President, Jayme Dehner – Secretary and Steve McMaster – Treasurer.
