“A” Game – AC Valley 26 Clarion 14

Clarion girls’ junior high basketball team played one of their best games of the year in a loss to AC Valley Wednesday (December 10) afternoon in Foxburg. They held the undefeated Lady Falcons to their lowest scoring total of the season – 12 points below it. Clarion played fantastic team defense in holding the Falcons down.

Clarion dug themselves a deep hole early, trailing 10-0 just 4 minutes into the game. From that point on, Clarion played them straight up being outscored 16-14 the rest of the way.

Wendy Beveridge led the Lady Cats in scoring with 6 points. Ali Troese finished with 3 points and Carly Best and Lindsey Kemmer tallied two points each. Kaylie Lutz finished with 1 point.

“B” Game – Clarion 15 AC Valley 12 (OT)

For the third time this season Clarion’s B team found themselves in an overtime contest. And for the third straight time, they found themselves on the winning side coming up with a 15-12 victory. Clarion was up 6-2at the half only to see come back to tie the game and send it to overtime.

With the game tied at 12 with 30 seconds left, Kaitlyn Constantino stepped to the foul line and calmly made the first three to put the Cats up 1. She missed the second free throw and Ali Troese grabbed the offensive rebound and scored, to push the lead to 3 as the Cats then held on for the win.

Constantino led all scorers with 11 points. Ali Troese and Cassie Acey each finished with two points.

Clarion will host Moniteau Friday afternoon with the “B” game starting at 3:45.
