Bobcat Wrestlers Go One And One In District Nine Dual Meet Championships (02/01/15)

The Clarion Area Wrestling Team finished with a 1-1 record in the District Nine Class AA Dual Meet Championships, at Dubois High School on Saturday (January 31st).

The Bobcats opened the tournament with a 60-12 victory over Smethport, in the Quarter-Final, before falling to eventual Champion Brookville 56-15, in their Semi-Final matchup. Brookville is ranked number three in the state.

Clarion’s 160 pounder, Prince Brooks opened the Sheffield match with a 3-2 win. After a fall by the Smethport wrestler, at 170, made the score 6-3, in favor of the Hubbers, Clarion reeled off nine straight wins, excluding 106, where there was no match.

Jacob Troutman pinned his opponent at 182, in 31 seconds, followed by a forfeit win by Alexander Burkhart at 195. Zach Sintobin registered a pin at 220. Zack Huet received a forfeit at 285. giving the Bobcats a 27-6 lead. Alex Struble won 9-2, at 113, followed by a pin at 3:24, by Riley McMaster at 120. The Cats now led 36-6.

Successive forfeit wins by Caleb Bailey (126), Adrian Weber (132) and Zach Dotterer (138) advanced Clarion’s lead to 54-6. Colton Rapp recorded a fall in 1:37 of the bout at 145 to move the score to 60-6.

Smethport picked up a forfeit at 152, to set the final.

Three Bobcats posted victories against Brookville. Troutman pinned his opponent in 14 seconds, in the opening match, at 170. Zach Sintobin recorded a 6-0 win at 195 and Huet registered a fall at heavyweight, in 2:26.

The Brookville defeated Redbank Valley in the Championship bout by a nearly identical score as their win against the Clarion. The final was 56-11. Redbank advanced to the Final by defeating Brockway 36-29 in the Semis.

St. Marys defeated Clearfield, in the two team, AAA Championship 33-22. The Raiders and Dutch will advance to the PIAA  Dual Championships, to be held at the Giant Center in Hershey, this coming Thursday through Saturday (February 5th – 7th).
