Junior High Boys Basketball: B-Team Remains Undefeated With Victory Over North Clarion (02/21/15)

The Junior High Boys Basketball B-Team hosted North Clarion on Wednesday (February 18th). Coach Jason Craig shares this article on the game:

The Jr. High Boys B-Team kept their winning streak and undefeated season going in a hard fought 22 – 19 win over North Clarion (on Wednesday, February 18th). This is the second time we played the Wolves this year and we knew it was going to be different this time around. Matson Higgins was not at full strength last time and his ball handling really helped his team compete today.

The game really couldn’t have been much closer. It was tied at 6 after the first quarter and tied at 10 at halftime. North Clarion won the third quarter 7 – 6 and held a 17- 16 lead heading into the 4th. Clarion’s defense came up big, holding the Wolves to just 2 points in the final period. The Bobcats scored 6 points and came away with a 22 – 19 victory.

Tyler Schmader and Nick Frederick each had 6 points for the Bobcats. Tyler had a huge basket late in the game (off an assist by Josh Craig) when we were clinging to a 1-point lead. Nate Datko and Craig came in with 4 points, while Clay McElravy rounded out the Bobcat scoring with 2.

Tyler and Greg Kalinowski were very instrumental in stopping Tyler Wolbert in the second half of the game. He was beating us in the first half, scoring 7 points. I talked to Tyler and Greg at halftime and asked them to shut him down in the second half. Their defense on him was the real difference in the game.

Tyler Wolbert recorded a game high 7 points (all in the first half) for the Wolves. Jacob Bower scored 5, Drew Gatesman 4 and Matson Higgins 3. Bower and Higgins each hit a 3-pointer in the contest.

The win moves Clarion to 8 – 0 on the season with 6 games remaining.

(Thanks to Coach Craig for this article. Keep up the good work, Bobcats!!!!)
