SMI Downs Delta In Little League Baseball Action (04/29/15)

Game two for SMI followed the opening ceremony Saturday April 25 at Weaver Park.

Hayden Callen took the mound for SMI. Delta’s first batter was Ethan Burford who was put out 4-3, Ryan Hummel then singled off Callen but was thrown out trying to steal 2nd, Braden Rankin reached first base on a dropped third strike and eventually scored the only run of the half inning.

In the bottom of the 1st Breckin Rex took the mound for Delta. Rex struck out SMI’s first batter then gave up a single to Connor Cromer, who stole 2nd, then took 3rd on a passed ball. Christian Simko, Gabe Simko, and Tanner Miller drew walks; Miller plated Cromer. Owen Kriebel drew a walk plating C. Simko. Rex added a 2nd strikeout and then got Jack Callen to groundout 6-3. SMI 2-1.

Ryan Hummel then took the mound for Delta in the bottom of the 2nd. Hummel struck out the first batter. Hayden Callen then hit the season’s first home run, a towering shot clearing the left field fence in a hurry (and just missing the new McDonalds scoreboard). Cromer then walked and stole 2nd and 3rd. Christian Simko then doubled scoring Cromer. Simko was left stranded. SMI 4-1.

In the top of the 3rd H. Callen struck out one and induced two put outs.

Owen Kriebel drew a walk in the bottom of the 3rd for SMI. Jack Callen singled, and Brock Smith singled, each recorded their first Little League hits. With bases loaded H. Callen was intentionally walked plating Kriebel. C. Simko drew a walk and scored B. Smith. SMI 6-1.

In the top of the 4th H. Callen struck out two and induced a 1-3 put out.

Hummel struck out three SMI batters in the 4th but not before Timmy Craig recorded a single. Craig was left aboard.

In the 5th H. Callen struck out two then gave way to Christian Simko. Simko gave up a hit to Burford who singled and scored. Hummel then drew a walk before Simko recorded a strike out to end the half inning.

Ethan Burford took over on the mound for Delta in the bottom of the 5th. B. Smith walked, Burford put out two, C. Simko then singled scoring Smith. Burford recorded a strike out to end the inning. SMI 7-2.

In the top of the 6th Christian Simko faced three and struck out three Delta batters to end the game. SMI 7-2.
