Baseball: Bobcats Defeat Brookville And Redbank Valley (04/29/15)

The Clarion Area Baseball Team traveled to Brookville on Monday (April 27th) and hosted Redbank Valley on Tuesday (April 28th) and came away with victories in both games, as they defeated the Blue Raiders 14-4 in five innings and downed the Bulldogs 5-1.

BROOKVILLE GAME

The Cats scored four runs in each of the first two innings and six more in the third, against Brookville. The Raiders score one run each, in the first, second , fourth and fifth innings.

The Bobcats pounded out 17 hits, including six doubles. Thomas Plummer had two of the doubles, on three hits, while driving in 4 runs and scoring twice. He also threw two strikeouts, as he came in in relief for the last inning.

For his effort, Plummer was named the Bobcats’ Player of the Game by manager Rob Jewett, who said, “Thomas had a great day at the plate going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and 4 RBI’s. He also had 2 catches in center field and threw the final inning striking out two.”

Spencer Miller also went 3 for 4, with two doubles. Miller scored three runs. Leo Aiello also had a big day, at the plate, going 3 for 3, with another of the Cats’ doubles. Aiello drove in 3 runs, stole a base and scored once. Adrian Weber also had a double. He drove in a run and scored twice. Caleb Wilson had 2 hits with an RBI and a stolen base.

Derek Lauer went 2 for 3, with an RBI and a run scored. Max Lane was 1 for 2, with an RBI and three runs scored. Reed Anthony and Luke Nellis each had hits. Ryan Anthony scored a run.

Taylor Smith was the winning pitcher, going two innings, giving up 2 hits, striking out 2, walking 1 and surrendering a run. Weber pitched two innings, striking out 4 and giving up 3 hits and two runs. He walked four. Thomas Plummer threw the two strikeouts and gave up 2 hits and one run, while walking one, in his inning on the mound.

REDBANK VALLEY GAME

Redbank Valley jumped out on top, in Tuesday’s game, scoring their only run in the first inning. The Bobcats answered with one of their own, in the bottom of the inning, and added two runs in the third and two more in the fourth.

Luke Nellis had 2 hits and scored a run, for the Cats. Taylor Smith had a double and and RBI. Adrian Weber and Thomas Plummer each had a hit and an RBI, while Derek Lauer had a hit. Reed Anthony had an RBI. Spencer Miller stole 4 bases and scored twice. Max Lane stole two bases and Caleb Wilson stole a base and scored a run.

Spencer Miller picked up the win, going 2 innings, striking out two and giving up a hit. Max Lane went 2 innings, giving up no hits, while striking out four. Lauer threw 3 innings, striking out 4, while allowing three hits.

Coach Jewett named Miller the Bobcats’ Player of the Game, saying, “Spencer had a nice game all around. He generated 2 runs at the plate reaching by an error and then by a walk. He stole 4 bases which led to scoring 2 runs. He also did a nice job on the mound pitching 2 scoreless innings to pick up the win.”
