Cats Do Well At 2015 Redbank Valley Track And Field Invitational (05/10/15)

A number of Bobcats and Lady Cats had fine showings at the 2015 Redbank Valley Track And Field Invitational, onThursday, May 7th.

The Clarion Area contingent came away with fourteen top six finishes, which included three firsts, two seconds, two thirds, seven fourths and a fifth.

Liam Raehsler won the Boys’ 1600, in a meet record time of 4:27.52, beating the old mark of 4:33.56 set by Casey Dinger of Redbank Valley, in 2003. Raehsler also took fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:04.50 and was a member of the fourth place 4×800 relay, along with Adam Bettwy, Kyle Bettwy and Jimmy Smathers.

Ian Corbett “hit for the cycle” taking a first, second, third and fourth. Corbett was the Boys’ long jump champion, with a leap of 20-7. His second place finish came in the 100, where he ran 11.14 and his third place finish came in the 200, where he recorded a 23.19. Corbett teamed with Zach Hill, Ethan Straffin, and Matt Wagner for a fourth place finish in the 4×100 relay, finishing with a time of 45.71.

Julie Kenneson won the Girls’ high jump, clearing the bar at 5-0.

Hill  finished in a second place tie with Karns City’s Tyler Dunn, in the Boys’ high jump clearing a height of 6-1.

Forest Mills ran a 2:33.96 in the Girls’ 800, for a third place finish. She also also finished 5th in the 400, running a 1:05.96. Straffin had two individual fourth place finishes in the Boys’ field events, the javelin, where he threw 152.0 and the shot put with a heave of 43-11.5.

Also placing fourth for the Bobcat Boys were Josh Kreibel, who ran a 16.27 in the 110 hurdles and Adam Bettwy who recorded a 10:56.99, in the 3200.

Four other Clarion Area athletes had top 10 finishes. Michael Bartley just missed a medal, finishing seventh in the Boys’ javelin with a throw of 138-1. Katie Eustice, also just missed making it to the platform, finishing seventh in the Girls’ high jump, going 4-8. Lady Cats, Allison Harriger and Gabby Weaver had eighth place finishes, Harriger in the 1600, with a time of 6:11.54 and Weaver in the 300 hurdles recording a 50.81.

Also competing for Clarion Area were: Anniya Brown, Meredith Burkhart, Lili Frakes, Gloria Kroh, Chelsea Mason, Maya Miller, Hannah Phillips, Devon Quinn, Claire Saylor, Zoe Shaffer, Ty Burford and Brendan Zerfoss.

Sixteen schools competed in this year’s event: Clarion, A-C Valley, Brookville, Clarion-Limestone, Cranberry DuBios Central Catholic, Hickory, Karns City, Keystone, Kiski Prep, Mercer, Moniteau, North Clarion, Redbank Valley, Union and Wilmington.

In addition to Raehsler’s 1600 record, five other new marks were established, all in the Girls’ division: Redbank Valley’s Brooke Hinderliter with a throw of 157-3, in the javelin; Hickory’s Elena Marchand with a toss of 46-2, in the shot put; Moniteau’s Maura Kimmel, with a throw of 139-6, in the discus; Wilmington’s Julie Strobel with a 10-3 in the pole vault; and Hickory’s 4×400 relay, with a time of 4:11.15.
