Janney Downs CCCB In Exciting C.A.L.L. Softball Game (06/04/15)

(By Janney Manager, Dave Constantino)

In one of the most exciting and well played little league softball games in some time, Janney outlasted Clarion County Community Bank 3-1, Monday (June 1st) night at Weaver Park. In a pitcher’s duel between Janney’s Kaitlyn Constantino and CCCB’s Abby Simpson, the game remained scoreless until the top of the 6th when Janney pushed across 3 runs and held their opponent to their lone tally in the bottom half of the inning.

Both pitchers were helped out by their defense at various times throughout the game. CCCB”s Ava Cherico made a nice relay throw from short left field to nail Kendall Dunn who was trying to stretch a double into a triple. Janney was helped by Brenna Campbell, Sierra Brown, and Monica Heath, each of whom made solid plays in the infield.
CCCB’s Jordan Best made a nice tag on a Janney runner who was trying to steal home on a passed ball. Meanwhile, Janney’s catcher Dunn continued her solid play behind the plate and has not let one runner on base by a dropped third strike in 10 games so far this year.

Kendall Dunn had a double and single for Janney. Constantino ripped a triple and Brenna Campbell laced a single for the winners.

Ariana Girvan had a triple for CCCB, while Kyara Girvan had a double, and Simpson and Best added singles.

Kaitlyn Constantino went the distance, striking out 12 CCCB batters, giving up 1 run on four hits, and only walking 1 hitter.

Abby Simpson also threw all 6 innings, striking out 10, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, and walking 4.

It was a tremendously intense game that gave the spectators a real treat to witness . Hats off to all players that participated in this game.
