Clarion Junior High Girls’ Basketball Opens Season with Home Games Against Cranberry and North Clarion (11/08/15)

The Junior High Girls Basketball season began last week, with the Lady Cats hosting Cranberry, on Wednesday (November 4th) and North Clarion on Thursday (November 5th). Coach Dave Constantino shares this recap:

Wednesday:

7th Grade Game – Cranberry 26 Clarion 10

Clarion’s 7th grade girls’ basketball team opened up its season on Wednesday with a loss to Cranberry 26-10. Clarion was only down 8-6 at halftime but Cranberry used a big quarter, outscoring the Lady Cats 10-2 to take command of the game. Ava Cherico led the Lady Cats with 8 points and Emily Grabiak had a pair.

8th Grade Game – Cranberry 17 Clarion 8

Clarion opened up its season with a stellar defensive effort limiting the Lady Berries to only 17 points, but it wasn’t enough as they could only muster 8 points of their own. Clarion only has 2 8th grade players on their entire roster with the rest of the team made up of 7th graders. They will face teams made up of 8th and 9th graders this year. Clarion was led by Kaitlyn Constantino and Kyara Girvan who both finished with 4 points in the contest.
Thursday:

7th Grade Game – North Clarion 16 Clarion 8

Clarion hosted the She-Wolves Thursday afternoon and came away with an 8 point loss. The Lady Cats were led in scoring by Kate Heinen who finished with 4 points. Both Ava Cherico and Ava Kiser scored two points. The 7th graders continue to play hard and good solid team defense.
8th Grade Game – North Clarion 27 Clarion 15

The young Cats got down early but used a strong second half to finish against strong veteran North Clarion team in Thursday’s nightcap. Clarion was down 16-0 early but continued to claw their way back in the second half. Kaitlyn Constantino pumped in 9 points for the Lady Cats. Ava Cherico finished with 4 and Kyara Girvan scored 2.

The Young Cats are a fun group to coach and both Coach Bevevino and I looking forward to watching them grow over the next two months.
