Basketball: Bobcats And Lady Cats Both Successful Against Forest Area (12/20/15)

The Clarion Area Boys Basketball Team, led by Jon Smith’s 23 points, downed the homestanding Forest Area Fires 71-31, while the Lady Cats, with three players Kelly Beveridge, Anna Reed and Alexis Constantino, hitting for double figures defeated the visiting Lady Flames 48-23, on Friday (December 18th).

BOYS’ GAME:

The Bobcats jumped out to a 26-2 lead after one quarter and held a 41-11 halftime advantage. They outscored the Fires 24-13, in the third stanza, to take a 57-24 lead heading into the final quarter. Forest Area outscored Clarion 7-6, in the fourth to set the 71-31 final.

Ten of the Bobcats’ fifteen players scored. Bo Miller followed Smith’s 23 points with eight. Cameron Craig had 13 and Ceventh Lynch-Skunda followed with seven points. Reed Anthony had six points. Ty Burford and Ryan Anthony scored four apiece, while Craig Kerr, Spencer Miller and Austin Hummell each contributed two points.

Seth Berlin led Forest Area with sixteen points.

Coach Jess Quinn said, “It was good to get so many of the boys in the game on Friday night. Anyone who was there saw good ball movement and very unselfish play by the Bobcats. The boys and the coaching staff had fun. If we are to accomplish the goals we’ve set at the beginning of the year, we will need everyone who dresses in a varsity uniform to make those goals a reality.

“The boys are wanting everyone to come out and support them when we take on the Clarion-Limestone Lions, on Tuesday, December 22nd.”

GIRLS’ GAME:

The Lady Cats led 14-3 after one and 18-14, at the half. Clarion outscored Forest Area 17-4, in the third, to take a 35-18 lead heading to the last stanza. A 13-5 Lady Cat advantage in the fourth set the 48-23 final.

Kelly Beveridge led the team with 13 points and six steals. Reed had 11 points and Constantino followed with ten.

Gloria Kroh had 7 points and six rebounds. Wendy Beveridge had four points. Maya Thornton had 2 points and Maddie Weaver had one.

Morgan Silvis led Forest Area with thirteen points.

Lady Cats will travel to Clarion-Limestone on Tuesday (December 22nd).
