Jonathan Smith Named MVP In Sportsmanship I Boys’ All-Star Game, Kelly Beveridge And Anna Reed Do Well In Girls’ Game (04/05/16)

Clarion Area Senior  Jonathan Smith was named the Boys’ MVP  for the 16th Annual Sportsmanship I/Clarion County YMCA District 9 All-Star Games, played at Keystone High School on Saturday, April 2nd. The games which are a fundraiser for Camp Coffman and are a tribute to the outgoing seniors.

Smith had 36 points and 11 rebounds, for the Navy Blue Squad, which fell 124-104 to the Red Squad, in the highest scoring game in the event’s history. Four of his buckets were slam dunks, as he put on a fine show underneath. Former Bobcat Taylor Smith, who now is at Clarion-Limestone, also was on the Navy Blue Squad and contributed 5 points.

Christian LaParne from DuBois Central Catholic and Noah Rankin from Clarion-Limestone led a well balanced Red Squad with 20 points and 19 points respectively.

Lady Cats Kelly Beveridge and Anna Reed did well for the Royal Blue Squad, which fell 82-72 to the White Squad, in the Girls contest. Beveridge had 7 points and Reed 5 in the game. Their teammate Brooke Hinderliter from Redbank Valley was the Girls’ MVP, as she scored 22 points.

St. Marys’ Rachel Bauer led the White Squad with 13 points.

LaParne won the Boys’ Sportsmanship Award and Brookville’s Haley Olson, from the White Squad,  won the honor for the Girls. Olson also won the Girls’ 32 Shooting Contest and Coudersport’s Darren Kleglovits, from the Red Squad won for the Boys.

Ron Galbreath, who recorded over 600 total wins as the men’s coach at Clarion State College and Westminster and women’s coach at Geneva was named this year’s Western Pennsylvania Sportsperson of the Year.
