Bobcat Boosters Hold Meet The Team Event (05/01/16)

The Clarion Area Football Booster Club held their first ever, Meet The Team Event, on Sunday afternoon, May 1st, at the Craig E. Fleming American Legion Post 66, on Main Street.

The event served several purposes, with new players and their parents getting to meet the coaches – Head Coach Larry Wiser and Assistants Scott Miller, Lee Weber and Nate McClaine and Booster officers – Christine Hearst, President, Tracy Rapp, Treasurer and Jessica Moore, Secretary (the club is looking to fill the Vice President position); give information on Booster sponsored events and fundraisers, and information on team activities, etc. and to give players and their families an opportunity to get to know each other better.

Hearst and Rapp shared Booster Club information, including: the fact that the club exists to support the players, helping to defray team camp fees, providing, or helping with the cost of uniforms, camp, helmets and other items and events, through various fundraisers; holding monthly meetings with Coach Wiser (the time of the meetings are now 6:00 PM); providing the post-game pizza feed, after home games; provide the Thursday night team feed and film session, which is held at the American Legion (the Post donates the space for this).

Hearst introduced Dave Hartley, who is in charge of coordinating the Booster Club Facebook page.

Hearst mentioned some of the fundraising activities that include: the Golf Outing (Fathers’ Day, June 19th), including the big 50/50 drawing; Home Game 50/50, and Game Program sales (last season’s program sales and ads netted $3500 / the programs are under the direction of Milissa Bauer).

Coach Wiser and his assistants shared information on various team activities, among them: Mud Run at Treasure Lake (May 14th); CPFCA Combine at Bald Eagle Area High School (May 24th); F.A.S.T. conditioning and agility program and weight room time (beginning June 3rd); Physicals (June 8th and 15th); Elementary Football Camp for grades 3-6 (June 6th through 8th); Team Camp at Lycoming College (August 1st through 5th). Coach Wiser also mentioned various All-Star Games that Bobcats will be taking part in this summer, and encouraged players and parents to come out to support the  Clarion participants: Brendan Miller – CPFCA Lezzer Lumber Classic, June 17th, in Altoona; Will Staub and Coach Wiser – KSAC/AML All-Star Game, July 1st in Brockway; Coach Wiser will also be an assistant coach in the Big 33 Game, June 18th, in Hershey.

Coach Wiser talked on concussion prevention and how the team’s limited contact at practice helps with this. He also shared about the new PIAA Classifications. Clarion is now in Class AA, with four other schools in District Nine, Moniteau, Kane, Brockway and Brookville.

Hearst finished the meeting by asking players to help at the Golf Tournament, as hosts, carrying guests’ clubs from car to cart, and also mentioning the need for a new coordinator for the ALF Parking fundraiser.
