Lions Soccer Team Concludes Fine Season; Blake Phillips, Kyle Schonbachler, Harrison Porter Named South All-Stars (11/02/16)

(By Coach Nicole Painter)

The Clarion-Limestone Lions saw their season come to a close, with an 8-4 loss to the Coudersport Falcons, in the 1st round of the District Nine Class-A playoffs.

Once again, the Lions continued to improve from last season and ended their regular season with a 6-6 record overall that qualified them for playoffs.

The Lions came out with a lot of momentum that allowed them to gain a 2-0 lead early in the 1st half. Both goals were scored by Blake Phillips off a penalty kick and an assist by Marshal Powers. The Falcons were able to answer back, though, with three goals of their own to leave the half close at 3-2 in favor of the Falcons.

The momentum would continue to be on the Falcons side as they would score 5 more goals to go up 8-2 in the second half. The Lions never gave up and refused to be denied as they were able to answer back with 2 more goals of their own in the last 20 minutes to make it an 8-4 game. Those goals would come from Blake Phillips and Braden Peters. Peters goal was assisted by Jake Burns. The game would end 8-4 in the Falcons favor.

The C-L Lions soccer team has much to be proud of this season. The Lions were second in the South League Conference with a 6-2 record. Their only two losses were to the Karns City Gremlins.

The team also has the honor of three players being placed on the South League All-Conference team. Those players included Blake Phillips, Kyle Schonbachler, and Harrison Porter. Blake had 25 goals, 4 assists, and 6 Hat tricks for the Lions this season. Kyle Schonbachler worked hard as a play maker through the center for the Lions and also chipped in with 4 goals and 6 assists.

Harrison Porter was nominated as a goal tender. He once again put on a stellar performance for the Lions in net facing 118 shots this season and making 66 saves.

The Lions are looking forward to getting back to work next season and wish our five seniors Blake Phillips, Leon Aristeguieta, Dylan Ehrhart, Kent Peterson, and Jarod Simpson all the best in their future endeavors! We would also like to thank all those who supported us throughout the season. Go Lions!
