Clarion Sixth Graders Hold Free Throw Competition Finals At Halftime Of Varsity Boys Game With Union (01/22/17)

The Clarion Area Elementary held the Finals of their Free Throw Competition, on Friday, January 20th, at halftime of the Boys Varsity Game with Union. This was part of a big night, before a packed house, with the Girls’ team also hosting the Golden Damsels.

The Free Throw Competition is organized by elementary teacher Angela Magagnotti, who plays a major role in the Clarion Area sports. Mrs. Magagnotti had the sixth graders shoot ten free throws each, in the elementary gym. The top two boys and top two girls made the finals.

This year’s finalists for the boys were Reece Geiger and Bailee Verdill, while the girls’ finalists were Aryana Girvan and Grace Ochs.

Each of the Finalists shot ten free throws, with Reece winning the Boys’ title and Aryana taking the Girls’ top spot.

Each of the finalists was awarded a t-shirt and the Champions were given basketballs purchased by the Boys and Girls Basketball Booster Clubs and autographed by the Clarion Area Varsity Squads.

Mrs. Magagnotti who was assisted in the event by Varsity Girls’ coach Tracy Durish, said, “(I) just wanted to add a thank you to both the boys and girls booster clubs for purchasing the basketballs for the winners and to both basketball teams for signing.”
