Weekly Little League Baseball Summary (05/14/17)

Clarion Little League: Rotary 7 – Burns & Burns 2 (Monday, May 8th)

Rotary recorded 5 hits and their pitchers combined for 5 strikeouts,  en route to a 7-5 victory over Burns & Burns on Monday.

Ryan Hummell had 2 doubles for Rotary, with teammates Aiden Coulson, Ty Rankin, and Jake Smith adding doubles of their own.  Tommy Smith and Brady Walker each singled for Rotary.  Rankin and Smith plated 2 runs, while Colson and Walker were each credited with an RBI.  Hummell started for Rotary and recorded 4 strikeouts.  He was relieved by Logan Lutz and then Tommy Smith, who added another punch out.

Dawson Smail led Burns & Burns with two hits, a double and a single.  Nick Aaron and Tanner Miller also doubled for Burns & Burns.  Derek Smail and Jayden Siwiecki contributed singles.  Miller was credited with an RBI.  Dawson Smail got the start for Burns and Burns, striking out 2 before giving way to Bryce Brinkley and Aaron.  Brinkly and Aaron each struck out two.

Clarion Little League: Lions 9 – Burns & Burns 7 (Tuesday, May 9th: Game 1)

Lions was able to overcome a 3 home run effort by Burns & Burns to claim a four run victory, in the first game of a Tuesday night doubleheader.

Daunte Girvan enjoyed a multi-hit game for Lions, rapping a double and single.  Matt Alston hit his first home run of the season.  Gary Matus tripled, Ryan Alston doubled, and Ben Aaron and Nathan Frederick singled for Lions.  Matt Alston knocked in 2 runs for Lions, with Girvan and Matus each contributing an RBI.  Ryan Alston was first on the hill for Lions, striking out 2.  Matus came on in relief and fanned 1.

Nick Aaron, Bryce Brinkley, and Dawson Smail wielded big bats, as   each homered for Burns & Burns.  It was Smail’s second round tripper of the season and the first for both Aaron and Brinkley.  Brinkley also tripled.  Jayden Siwiecki had 3 hits, a double and 2 singles.  Bryce Miller and Jesse Siwiecki contributed singles.  Brinkley and Smail each had 2 RBI and Aaron, Kam Kerle, Bryce Miller, and Tanner Miller plating 1 apiece.  Aaron was the starting pitcher for Burns & Burns and record 2 strikeouts.  Derek Smail finished the game and also struck out 2.

Clarion Little League: Delta 5 – Pizza Pub 3 (Tuesday, May 9th: Game 2)

The Tuesday evening nightcap saw another 2 run game, as Delta prevailed 5-3 against home standing Pizza Pub.

An offensive highlight of the game were the 5 doubles hit by Delta.  Jase Ferguson hit 2 and Jack Craig, Kwynton Leadbetter, and Gabe Simko all connected for 1.  Ashton Rex added a single.  Ferguson had 2 RBI and Leadbetter and Rex were both credited with 1.  Brayden Murray started for Delta and struck out 5.  Rex and Ferguson also saw time on the mound.

Those getting hits for Pizza Pub included a double by Aiden Quinn and singles by Alex Garduno, Devon Lauer, and Brady Quinn.  Lauer, Owen Kriebel, and Kothan Smith each plated 1 of Pub’s 3 runs.  Aiden Quinn started for Pub and picked up 2 strikeouts.  Also pitching were Lauer and Kohen Kemmer, both recording a single strikeout.

Clarion Little League: Rotary 16 – Lions 12 (Wednesday, May 10th)

Wednesday evening’s Little League tilt certainly didn’t lack for offense, as Rotary and Lions combined to put 28 runs on the board.  Ultimately, however, it was Rotary claiming a 2 run victory over a game Lions team.

Tommy Smith and Ryan Hummel both knocked balls over the fence for Rotary.  It was Smith’s 2nd dinger of the year and Hummell’s first.  Smith’s homer was complemented by a double and Hummel’s by a single.  Ty Rankin and Jake Smith also had multiple hits in the victory.  Rankin hit 2 singles and Smith a double and single.  Joining the hit parade were Logan Lutz with a double and Donovan Hawk with a single.  Lutz, Rankin, and Jake Smith each had 3 RBI, while Hummell and Tommy Smith both had 2.  Jake Smith was the starting pitcher for Rotary and fanned 5.  Lutz struck out 6 in relief.

Jordan Hesdon and Daunte Girvan homered for Lions, the first for both this season.  The Alston brothers collaborated for 6 hits, as Matt notched 3 singles and Ryan had 2 singles and a double.  Gary Matus contributed a double and Ben Aaron a single to Lions offensive effort.  Matt Alston led the team with 4 RBI, Girvan had 3, and Hesdon added 2.  Hesdon started for the Lions and struck out 2.  Girvan and Matt Alston made relief appearances, with the former striking out 2 and the later 4.
