The Clarion Area Lady Cat soccer team held their Annual End of the Season Banquet on Tuesday November 14th.  Once again the Clarion Soccer booster club did an outstanding job organizing the event for the team.

Assistant Coach Ashley Montgomery and I recognized all those involved in the making of another successful season, the players, parents, booster club, school administration, and school grounds/maintenance department.

Special recognition was also paid to outgoing booster president, Rose Weaver.  Rose and husband Paul have been great supporters of the girls soccer program for a number of years.  Their three daughters, Paige, Madison, and Gabrielle, were all key members of their respective teams as leaders both on and off the field.  Next Fall we’ll take the field without a Weaver for the first time in 8 years, we thank their family once again for the time and sacrifice given to the Clarion girls soccer program.

The girls finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 12-7.  They won the Nini Manfredo tournament in September in dominating fashion, not allowing a goal against all day.  The team also had two members selected to the 2017 UAVSL All-Conference team, Wendy Beveridge and Alexa Hannold.

Several players were also recognized for their individual contributions during the season.  This year’s award winners were as follows:

2017 Rookie of The Year – Jenna Miller

2017 Offensive Rising Star – Emily Grabiak

2017 Defensive Rising Star – Ava Cherico

2017 Offensive MVP – Alexa Hannold

2017 Defensive MVP – Gabrielle Weaver

2017 Team MVP – Wendy Beveridge

Thanks again to the team for a great season, and all those that help support the program.  To the outgoing seniors (who were also my first freshman class), thank you for sticking with me over the past 4 seasons.  I’ve had the pleasure of watching you develop into good players and great individuals over the past 4 years.  Good luck to all of you as you finish the high school phase of life, I’m certain you will all find success in whatever endeavors you pursue.

(Thanks to Coach Schonbachler for this article. Great Season, Lady Cats!!!!)
