Coach Wiser Receives PSFCA Award (02/24/18)

Clarion Bobcat Football Mentor, Larry Wiser received a major award at the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Association’s (PSFCA) 2018 Coaches Clinic held Thursday – Saturday, February 15th – 17th, at the Penn Stater Hotel and Convention Center, in State College.

During a session on Friday, the PSFCA named their District Coaches of the Year, with Coach Wiser being named the 2017 District 9 Coach of the Year. Presenting Coach Wiser with his award was Pat Narduzzi, Head Coach of the University of Pittsburgh.

Coach Wiser led the Bobcats to a 12-1 record. The Cats were the undefeated Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) Large School Champions, and the District Nine Class AA Champions. The Bobcats won their PIAA opening round game against Chestnut Ridge and advanced to the West Semifinal falling to eventual West Champion Wilmington. Coach Wiser had three players named All-State, Zak Bauer (Pennsylvania Football Writers and Pennsylvania Football News), Spencer Miller (Pennsylvania Football Writers) and Thomas Wurster (Pennsylvania Football News).

This is the second time Coach Wiser, a PSFCA Hall of Famer (Class of 2011), has won the award, having been named PSFCA District 9 Coach of the Year for 2009.

Keynote Speaker for the 2018 Clinic was Jerry Kill former Head Coach of the University of Minnesota, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, Emporia State University and Saginaw Valley State University. Coach Kill’s most recent coaching stint was as Offensive Coordinator at Rutgers.

Other speakers included Narduzzi, Penn State Coach James Franklin and Temple Coach Geoff Collins and members of their staffs, as well as, head and assistant college coaches and high school coaches in all classifications throughout Pennsylvania.
