Basketball: Bobcat Boys Down Lions, Move On To District Semifinals (02/24/18)

The Clarion Area Boys Basketball Team opened the 2017-18 District Nine Class AA Playoffs with a 57-43 win over next door neighbor Clarion-Limestone, on Thursday (February, 22nd) at Tippin Gymnasium.

The game was tight throughout three quarters. Neither team had a lead of more than four points in the first half. The score was tied 17-all after one and 27-all, at the half. A Cal German trey, in the middle of the third, gave the Bobcats their biggest lead to that point, at 37-29. The Lions would tighten things up and the Bobcats held a 38-32 lead heading to the fourth.

The Cats owned the final stanza, with Nick Frederick  and Austin Hummell leading the way with six points apiece in the quarter.

Three Bobcats hit double-figures, led by Cam Craig’s 16, followed by German’s 15 and Hummell’s ten. Spencer Miller just missed double-figures with 9 and Fredrick had six.

Christian Smith led the Lions with fifteen. Hayden Callen and Deion Deas followed with ten apiece.

The fifth seeded Bobcats will now advance to the semifinals, where they will face number one seed Ridgway at a date, time and location to be announced.
