Bobcats Win Scrimmage Against DuBois, 6-0 (03/25/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub) The Clarion Bobcats scored runs in four of the six innings played to down the DuBois Beavers 6-0 in a scrimmage played on Tuesday, March 20 at Showers Field.

Clarion plated two runs in the opening frame when Nate Datko singled to right field. They added one in top of the third when Cutter Boggess scored on a Skylar Rhoades sacrifice fly and another in the fifth when Cal German scored on a passed ball. Spencer Miller and then Rhoades crossed the plate in the top of the sixth to set the final score, 6-0.

The Bobcats combined for six hits, all singles. Sterling Conner led the way with two hits, driving in one. Datko had one hit and drove in two, Also singling for Clarion were Miller, Boggess, and Drew Whren. Rhoades and Cameron Craig were credited with an RBI apiece.

On the base paths the Bobcats stole six, with German and Miller each swiping two. Boggess and Conner each stole a base.

Clarion used six pitchers in the two hit shutout, each throwing a single inning. Rhoades started, walking one and striking out another. He was followed on the bump by Skylar Pastor, who also walked one and struck out one. The third inning was Conner’s whose pitching line was identical to the Skylars in the first two frames. German got the call in the fourth, striking out three and surrendering no walks. Craig pitched the fifth, fanning two against zero free passes. Miller closed out the contest, striking out one and walking one.

The Bobcats are scheduled to open the 2018 season with a 4:15 game against Clarion-Limestone in Strattanville on Tuesday, March 27.
