Colt Stimmell, Zak Bauer And Spencer Miller Receive Scholarships At Varishetti All-Star Game (07/13/18)

Fourteen players received $1,000 scholarships at the 3rd annual Frank Varischetti All-Star football game June 29 in Brockway.

The game involves graduates of the Class of 2018 from 21 school districts that make up the Allegheny Mountain League and the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference. Seven players from each team receive scholarships.

Each scholarship is funded by a Game Sponsor for players pursuing post-secondary education or technical training at an accredited school are eligible for the scholarships.

The players submitted academic information along with their school and community involvement and wrote an essay answering the question, “What role has football played in your life and how has it prepared you for your future?”

The entries were reviewed by a three-member selection committee comprised of Steve Zarlinski, retired superintendent, Brockway Area School District; Ray Reckner, retired elementary school teacher, head football coach and athletic director, Brockway Area School District; and PJ Piccirillo, writer and English and humanities instructor at BC3@Brockway.

 

* The Farmers National Bank Scholarship was awarded to Colt Stimmell of Clarion by William C. Marsh, president and CEO of Farmers National Bank. Stimmell will attend Ithaca College to study Cinema and Photography.

* Nick Varischetti of the Pittsburgh law firm Burns White Attorneys at Law presented the Burns White Scholarship to Zak Bauer of Clarion. Bauer will attend Dickinson College to study law.

* Spencer Miller of Clarion was presented with The Penn Highlands Healthcare Scholarship by Steven Fontaine, Penn Highlands Chief Executive Officer, and Karin Pfingstler, Fund Development System Director. Miller will attend Gannon University to study Biomedical Engineering.
