The Tri-City Thunder 16U softball team won back to back tournaments over the past two weekends to conclude their season.  Two weeks ago during the weekend of July 13-15 the Thunder captured the Twist USA Softball Tournament in Washington, PA.

The girls went 3-0 in pool play and earned the top seed by defeating Pittsburgh’s Keystone Kombat, Pittsburgh Power, and West Hills.  Sunday’s championship was rained out giving the Thunder the title because they had earned the top seed during pool play.

The Thunder girls went a perfect 6-0 this past weekend (July 20-22) and was crowned co-champions of the NSA Softball in the Hills Tournament in Wheeling, West Virginia. Tri-City was forced to share the title after the championship game was rained out.  The Thunder earned the top seed and a bye in the championship bracket after rolling to wins in pool play, including a 6-0 win over Cincy State Black, a 14-2 decision over Valley Rage (Aliquippa), a 10-0 shutout over Extreme Power, and a 6-3 victory over Pittsburgh Riot.

In the championship bracket opener, Tri-City downed the Pittsburgh Lady Bulldogs-White 10-2 and followed that win up with 9-2 victory over St. Clairsville’s Thunder in the semifinal.  The Thunder 16U were scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Lady Bulldogs Black for the title before it was washed out.  This weekend wrapped up the season for Tri-City which finished with a record of 20-2-1 over their 5 tournaments.  They won 3 of those tourneys and finished in second place in 2 more.
