Bobcats Season Ends With Playoff Loss To Warriors (11/04/18)

The Clarion Bobcat Football Team’s 2018 season came to an end, with a 20-14 loss to Moniteau, at Memorial Stadium, on Friday (November 2nd), in the District Nine Class AA opening round.

Moniteau’s Nick Martino opened the scoring by returning a fumble over 60 yards for a touchdown at 8:34 of the first quarter. Cody Wise kicked the extra point and the Warriors led 7-0.

The Bobcats tied the score at 3:26 of the first, when Archer Mills hit Logan Minich in the right side of the end zone for a thee yard touchdown followed by Mills’ extra point kick. The touchdown was set up by a 31 yard pass completion by the pair, several plays earlier.

Moniteau defensive lineman Donovan Francois returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown at 10:10 of the second quarter. Wise’s kick was good and the Warriors led 14-7.

Later in the quarter the the Cats held Moniteau on a downs at the Clarion three yard line.

There was no scoring in the third quarter.

Then with 4:03 left in the game, Logan Minich ran for a 5 yard touchdown. Mills was successful on the PAT and the score was tied at 14-all.

But Wise scored on a one yard run with 1:53 left. The extra point was blocked and the final was set at 20-14.

Coach Wiser had this to say, “I felt the defense played very well. Turnovers and penalties continued to plaque the 2018 Bobcats.

“Despite the the turnovers I thought the TEAM played its heart out tonight. I would have liked this TEAM and especially the Seniors to have had a better ending to there career at Clarion, but this season ending loss will not define this group. They made the District playoffs 3 years in a row, and were part of the school’s first AA District 9 Champions.

“I will miss them all.”
