Clarion Volleyball Downs AC Valley, Will Play For District 9 Title (11/02/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub)  On Thursday evening (Nov. 1) the Bobcat volleyball team punched its ticket to this weekend’s District 9 championship game with a 3-1 victory over the visiting AC Valley Falcons. Clarion won the opening set of the semifinal match up 25-22 before dropping a tight second set, 25-23. The young women in orange-and-black rebounded from the loss by reeling off 25-17 and 25-23 victories to take the match.

Freshman Korrin Burns did yeoman work for the Bobcats, serving for nine points (three aces), driving home 18 kills, and coming up with 25 digs on defense. Burns’s efforts were recognized by D9Sports.com, who recognized her as the Hagar Paving Player of the Game.

Also serving for nine points were freshman Jordan Best (three aces), sophomore Brenna Campbell, and junior Kaitlyn Constantino (one ace). Senior Lexi Lauer (one ace) and junior KK Girvan both had seven apiece from the line. Junior Maddie Schill posted a double digit kill total, smashing 10. Campbell doled out 43 assists.

Girvan was her usual tough self on defense, coming up with 18 digs, while Constantino contributed 11. Senior Dorothy Kalinowski had a solo block and assisted on another. Also assisting on blocks were Campbell, Schill, and senior Hailey Sintobin.

Clarion will play Ridgway for the District 9 title tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 3) at St. Marys. Game time is scheduled for 1:00PM. The Elkers advanced to the finals with a 3-1 win over Cranberry.
