Basketball Round-up: Lady Cats 2-0, Bobcat Boys 1-1 This Week, Both Head To District 9 Playoffs (02/16/19)

The Clarion Area Lady Cats Basketball Team went 2-0 this week with a 48-36 win, at home, over Brockway on Monday (February 11th) and a 53-40 win at DuBois Central Catholic on Wednesday (February 13th). The Bobcat Boys had two away games, falling to Brockway 71-67 on Monday while defeating Kane 73-41 on Wednesday.

Girls:

K. K. Girvan was the Lady Cats leading scorer, with 14 points, in the 48-36 victory over Brockway. K. K. also had 4 assists, 3 rebounds and three steals. Wendy Beveridge and Kait Constantino were also in double-figures, with 13 points apiece. Beveridge also had a big all-around game recording 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks and four steals.

Clarion led 13-5 after one, 29-21 at the half and 40-24 after three.

Danielle Wood Led the Lady Rovers with sixteen.

Constantino led the way in Clarion’s 53-46 win over the Lady Cardinals, with a game and career high twenty-eight points. She was 12-for-14 from the free throw line and had 7 steals and five rebounds.

Girvan followed with twelve points. Beveridge had 10 blocks, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and five assists.

D.C.C. led 13-8 after one. The Lady Cats came back and led by one, 18-17 at the half. Clarion held on to a 30-29 lead after three before going on a 23-11 run in the final stanza to seal the win.

Alyssa Bittner had 13 for D.C.C.

The Lady Cats now 15-7, will face Cranberry, on Wednesday (February 20th) at North Clarion in the District Nine Class AA quarterfinals. Clarion is the number four seed and Cranberry is seeded fifth.

Boys:

Cal German led Clarion with twenty-four points in the Bobcats’ 71-67 loss to the Rovers. Three other Cats also were in double-figures, with Jake Burns scoring 12 and Archer Mills and Nick Frederick each scoring eleven.

Alec Freemer had 28 to lead Brockway.

Frederick had 20 points to lead the Bobcats in the 73-41 victory over Kane. Gavin Brinkley had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Jake Burns followed with ten.

Alex Rezzelle had 10 to lead the Wolves.

The seventh seeded Bobcats will face number two seed Ridgway in the District Nine Class AA quarterfinals, on Tuesday (February 19th) at Brookville.
