Bobcat Football To Participate In Wreaths Across America (02/02/19)

The Clarion Area Bobcat Football Team’s off-season charity focus, this year is Wreaths Across America.

The Cats are working with Wreaths Across American to promote and sell 650 wreaths to be placed on our Clarion veterans graves on National Wreaths Across America Day, December 14th, at the Clarion Cemetery on South 2nd Avenue.

According to the Wreaths Across America website (wreathsacrossamerica.org), “Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 1,600 locations across the United States, at sea and abroad.”

They further state, “From the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts, our veterans are devoted sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers. They come from all backgrounds in life to place those lives on the line for our freedoms…

“We understand we have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, but our service members sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year to preserve our freedoms.

“In many homes, there is an empty seat for one who is serving or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There is no better time to express our appreciation than during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We hope you will join us at any of our more than 1,600 participating locations to show our veterans and their families that we will not forget. We will never forget.”

Speaking for the Clarion Area Boosters, Clancy Pociello said, “We have found that many of the Veterans, through The Legion and as alumni of Clarion Area High School have been so very generous each year with their football support.  In 2019 we wanted to do something special and personal to many of the players as well as the organizations that so generously support us.

“We are working with Wreaths Across American to promote and sell 650 wreaths to be placed on our Clarion veterans graves.”

On a personal note Mrs. Porciello said, “My son Kyle’s great grandfather is a veteran buried in that cemetery and Kyle is so very excited that he will have the opportunity to place the wreath of honor at his grave.  Kyle’s only regret is that his grandfather will not be present to see him place the wreath.”
