Former Lady Cat Alexis Constantino Named Pitt-Bradford Female Rookie Of The Year (05/01/19)

The Department of Athletics, at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, hosted its annual Athletics Awards Banquet on Friday, April 20th in the Mukaiyama University Room.

Former Clarion Area three sport standout (volleyball, basketball, softball), Alexis Constantino was among those honored.

Alexis, a freshman member the volleyball team, earned the Female Athletic Rookie of the Year Award. The honor goes to the top female freshman/transfer athlete from all of the Panthers’ seven women’s varsity sports (basketball, bowling, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball). The award was presented to Alexis by athletic director Bret Butler. 

Alexis was joined by freshman baseball player Kevin Rehak, who garnered the Male Rookie of the Year Award.

Alexis also was awarded Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Academic All-Conference for the Women’s Volleyball 2018 season.  

A major contributor to the success the AMCC champion Panthers, Alexis played in all 33 matches (102 total sets). She had 223 digs, which was fourth best on the team and served 21 aces. The team received a bid to the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament. 

Alexis was also inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta which is the National Honor Society for First Year students.

Proud parents, Dave and Kim Constantino said, “We are extremely proud of Alexis and what she was able to accomplish her freshman year.  She continues to glorify God in all things she does and uses her faith to guide her whether on the court, in the classroom, or around campus. 

“She was able to make the Dean’s List while starting as a freshman and traveling almost every weekend during the season.” 

They shared their praise for Alexis’ coach and others, “We are thankful for the wonderful opportunity that Pitt-Bradford, Coach (Tom) Roof, and the entire athletic community provided for her this year.”

Alexis shared her thanks for her coaches at Pitt-Bradford, “I am very thankful to have played under the coaching of Tom Roof and the rest of the coaching staff at Pitt Bradford.  I would like to thank Coach Roof for all the time and effort he spent into coaching our team.

“I am thankful for the opportunity he gave me to start as a freshman and for always believing in my abilities.”

She also mentioned AD Butler, “I would also like to thank the Athletic Director, Bret Butler for always being so supportive of the athletic programs on campus and for coming to numerous games of ours during the season.”

Others receiving top awards at the 2018-19 Pitt-Bradford Athletic Awards Banquet were: Austin Parent (baseball) and sophomore Riley Anderson (women’s volleyball) – Athletes of the Year; Matt Moonan (men’s golf) and Maddy Hillery (softball) – Scholar Athletes of the Year.

In recognition of their triumphs in athletic competition and beyond, seniors Maya Bingaman (women’s tennis), Matt Dennis (men’s tennis) and Reggie Rogers (men’s basketball) – Triangle of Success awards (in recognition of their triumphs in athletic competition and beyond).

Recognition was given for all eighty-seven student-athletes at Pitt-Bradford who were named to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Academic All-Conference team, as well as, all the other community service, academic and athletic awards, achievements and milestones achieved throughout the 2018-19 seasons.
