Bobcat Grapplers Fall To Berries (12/21/19)

The Clarion Area Bobcat Wrestlers dropped a 42-31 decision, to the visiting Cranberry Berries, on Friday (December 20th). The Bobcats had a 6-5 edge in contested match wins.

The Bobcats opened with a 6-0 lead, when Zach Keil pinned Alex Tafoya, at 3:57 in the first period. There was a double forfeit at 126.

Colton Zacherl lost by fall, in the 132 pound match and the score was tied at 6-all. Travis Byers had a 10-0 major decision at 138, which put the Bobcats up 10-6.

Breckan Rex wrestling at 145 and Taylor Altman at 152, both lost by fall, moving Cranberry to an 18-10 lead.

Caleb Edmonds registered a pin at 3:50, for the Bobcats, at 160, cutting Cranberry’s lead to 18-16. Donavan Edmonds followed with a 6-5 decision at 170, moving the Bobcats in front 19-18. Then Cutter Boggess had a pin at 5:08, at 182, stretching the Bobcats’ lead to 25-18.

Cranberry received a forfeit win at 195, cutting the Bobcats’ lead to 25-24. Clarion’s Logan Edmonds lost by fall at 220 and the Berries led 30-25.

Ben Smith pinned his opponent in 1:37 at 285, to move Clarion in front again at 31-30.

But two forfeit wins at 106 and 113, by the Berries set the final at 42-31, Cranberry.

The Bobcats will be on the mats again on Saturday, January 4th, at the Bo Woods Memorial Tournament, at Indiana High School.
