Lions’ Boys Soccer Registers Program’s First Playoff Win Since 2006, With Overtime Victory Over Kane, Will Face Brockway For District Nine Class-A Championship (Posted 10/30/20)

The homestanding Clarion-Limestone Lions’ Boys Soccer defeatedKane in overtime 6-5, in the District Nine Class-A playoffs, on Tuesday (October 27th. The victory was the first playoff win for the Lions since the 2006 team registered a 4-0 win over Johnsonburg.

The second seeded Lions will now face top seeded Brockway, at Brockway District Nine Class-A Championship, on Thursday, November 5th. This will be the first Title Game appearance for C-L. The Rovers earned their spot in the title tilt, with a 5-0 win over Coudersport today (Wednesday, October 28th). Start time is set for 7:00PM.

Bailee Verdill was the first to score off a corner kick, giving the Lions the 1-0 lead.

Kane scored two in a row to take move out in front 2-1. One of which was bumped in by the C-L defense.

Ryker Bingham, moving the ball, had an amazing game)!

Nate Megnin had a corner kick, placed perfectly for Bailee Verdill to get his second of the game.

Kane scored another before the half, to give the Wolves a 3-2 lead.

Bailee Verdill had an assist on a Beau Verdill goal that tied the game. Don Cunnigham had the assist on another Beau Verdill goal and the Lions led 4-3.

Kane scored another two, which gave them a one-point 5-4 lead.

Nate Megnin had his second assist of the game for a Beau Verdill third goal to tie the game at 5-all, setting up overtime.

Headed into overtime, both teams played amazing games of soccer!

With 1:42 left in overtime, Don Cunnigham snagged the ball from a Kane player and got it to Beau Verdill, who was able to get a light touch on it, for a Bailee Verdill game winning goal!

Final Score: Lions 6 Kane 5
