Basketball: Clarion Area Boys And Girls Split Games With Keystone

The Clarion Area Boys and Girls Basketball Squads both faced Keystone in “Hoops for Hope” Cancer Awareness match-ups, on Saturday (February 13th).

The Bobcat Boys traveled to Keystone and downed the Panthers 49-44, while the Lady Cats fell, at home, 39-30 to the Lady Panthers.

Boys Contest

Beau Verdill led the Bobcats with 26 points, while also collecting 6 rebounds and coming away with five steals. Christian Simko had five points.

Hunter Craddock had 5points, while grabbing fourteen rebounds. Dawson Smail scored two points.

The Cats led 11-6 after one and with a 16-13 second quarter advantage, they held a 27-19 lead at the half. With the Panthers holding a 13-11 edge in the third, the Bobcat’s lead stood at 38-32 heading to the fourth, where Keystone had a 12-11 advantage to set the final.

Bret Wingard and Brandon Pierce led Keystone with fourteen points each.

Girls Contest

The Lady Cats hung tough with the undefeated Lady Panthers, in this contest, trailing 12-10 after one and 24-18 at the half. With a 10-2 Keystone advantage in the third, the Panthers were up by fourteen, 34-20 at the three-quarter mark.

The Lady Cats had a 10-5 edge in the fourth to set the final at 39-30, Keystone.

Erica Selfridge led the Cats with eight points. Jordan Best followed with 6 points, while Ava Cherico added points including a three-pointer.

Noel Anthony contributed four points, Payton Simko had 3 and Rebekah Ketner followed with two.

Emily Lauer and Natalie Bowser led Keystone, with 12 and 10 points respectively.

The Bobcat Boys are scheduled to travel to Brockway, with the Lady Cats set to host Brockway, today (Monday, February 15th).
