Baseball Roundup: Bobcats Sweep Doubleheader From Union, Fall To DuBois Central Catholic

The Clarion Area Bobcats swept the Union Golden Knights in a Keystone Shortway, home and home, doubleheader at Clarion County Park on Thursday (May 6th), but fell to homestanding DuBois Central Catholic on Friday (May 7th)

The Bobcats claimed the first game, of the doubleheader with Union, 12-2 in six innings, as the home team and followed with a five inning 17-5 victory, as the visitor. They fell 7-2 to the Cardinals, in the Friday match up.

Cole Slaugenhoup picked up the win.

Game 1: Clarion 12 – Union 2 (six innings)

The Bobcats jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one and tacked on a run in the bottom of the third. Both teams put a run across the plate in the fourth, giving Clarion a 7-2 lead. The Bobcats held the Knights off the scoreboard in the next two innings, while scoring two in the fifth and three in the sixth for the six inning victory.

Ryan Alston went 2-for-4 for the Bobcats, with three runs batted in, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Tanner Miller was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Dawson Smail doubled and scored a pair of runs. Hunter Craddock had a single, drove in a pair of runs and scored once.

Gary Matus doubled, scored a run and stole a base. Cam Lapinto had one hit, scored three runs and stole a base. Dauntae Girvan singled drove in a run and scored once. Bryce Brinkley had a hit and an RBI and Devon Lauer scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base.

Game 2: Clarion 17 – Union 5 (five innings)

Union got on the scoreboard first, with two runs in the bottom of the second. Clarion answered with four runs in the top of the second for a 4-2 lead, but with three runs by the Knights, in the bottom of the inning, Union lead again, 5-4. The Cats exploded for thirteen runs in the fourth to take the 17-5 lead, which stood for the next inning and half, to set the final.

Dawson Smail was 3-for-5 at the plate, driving in five big runs, scored three times and stole a base. Bryce Brinkley went 3-for-4, with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Cole Slaugenhoup tripled and singled, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Ryan Alston singled twice, drove in a pair of runs and scored once. Tanner Miller singled, scored twice, had a pair of RBIs and stole two bases, as well as, being the winning pitcher. Hunter Craddock singled scored once and drove in a pair of runs. Cameron Lapinto had a hit, scored a run and had an RBI.

Gary Matus scored twice. Rion Johnson, Devon Lauer and Brandon Beish each scored a run.

Game 3: DuBois Central Catholic 7 – Clarion 2

The Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Neither team scored in the second or third. Clarion pushed their two runs across in the top of the fourth to close the gap to just one run, at 3-2 DCC. But the Cardinals scored three more in the fourth and another in the fifth.

For the Bobcats, Cameron Lapinto and Cole Slaugenhoup each singled and scored a run. Bryce Brinkley also had a hit.
