Lady Cats Fall To DuBois Central Catholic In District Nine Class-AA Softball Semifinal

The Clarion Area Lady Cats dropped a 12-6 decision to the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals, in their District Nine Class-AA Softball semifinal match-up at Brockway, this afternoon (Thursday, May 27th).

The home team, Lady Cardinals started the scoring in with a run in the bottom of the second and another in the third.

But the Lady Cats answered with four runs in the fourth. Jordan Best led off with a home run to left center. Brenna Campbell followed that with a single to left and then Payton Simko singled to right. Kylee Beers came up to the plate, and with runners at first and second, she put the ball over the center field fence for a three run homer.

Clarion now led 4-2, but the Cardinals posted a run in the bottom of the inning, cutting the lead to one run, 4-3.

The Lady Cats moved their lead to 6-3, in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Best and Campbell reached base safely. Best later scored on a throwing error and Campbell came around to score on a single to left by Simko.

But the Cardinals scored nine runs in the sixth inning to set the 12-6 final.

The game was to be played last night, as the second game of a double header, but with inclement weather, they were only able to get the first game in. Clarion-Limestone defeated Elk County Catholic 19-11, in that one, to advance to face DCC in the Championship game.

The Cats are still alive. They will face Elk County Catholic. If the winner of that game did not previously face the team that loses the championship game, then those teams will play a “true second place” game. The winner will receive and a PIAA State playoff bid. If the winner of the Clarion – Elk County Catholic already lost to the team that loses the championship game, then the loser of the championship game automatically advances to the state playoffs.
