Volleyball: Lady Cats Down Lady Eagles

The Clarion Area Lady Cats defeated the Tyrone Lady Eagles in straight sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-17), in non-conference volleyball action, on Wednesday (September 16th).

The Cats never trailed in the first set. Tyrone hung close for a good bit of the set. But with a 15-11 lead, Clarion broke service and followed with nine straight service points by Adia Needham to seal the win. Korrin Burns had a couple of strong kills during the run.

The second set saw the Eagles leading most of the way early on, with the Bobcats managing ties several ties along the way. Clarion managed their first lead at 10-9. Later the Cats broke a tie to lead 14-13 and would not trail again in the set, outscoring Tyrone 11-5 down the stretch. Needham had three service points in the run, which Gia Babington finished off with four service points.

The Cats broke an 8-all tie, in the third set, on the first of three straight service points by Gia Babington, and the cats never trailed after that, going on to the win. Needham, Brianna Pierce and Burns contributed two service points apiece during the run.

Needham finished with 18 points (3 aces) and a kill. Burns had 19 kills, 7 points (2 aces) and seven digs. Noel Anthony dished out 20 assists, to go along with 2 points, a kill and three digs.

Gia Babington recorded 7 points and a dig. Pierce registered 4 points and four digs. Aryana Girvan knocked down 5 kills and had a pair of digs. Payton Simko scored 2 points (1 ace) and had a dig. Jordan Best scored 3 points, to go along with 2 assists and a dig.

Grace Ochs had 2 assists and a dig and Taylor Alston registered a kill.

The Lady Cat Junior Varsity fell in straight sets (23-25, 18-25).

Ochs had 7 points, to go along with five assists. Gia Babington scored 6 points and dished out an assist. Alicyn Burford scored three points. Natalie Durish had two points, and Hadley Campbell and Sophie Babington each had a point.

The Lady Cats are scheduled to return to action, as the host team, in the Clarion Booster Club Tournament, on Saturday (September 18th).
