The Clarion Area Lady Bobcats played two soccer games this week.

On Monday (October18th), the team traveled to DuBois to face the Lady Beavers.  DuBois got off to a fast start and managed to build a 7-0 lead by halftime.  Much to their credit the Lady Bobcats kept fighting for the full 80 minutes, keeping DuBois scoreless in the 2nd half and finishing the game 7-2.

Alexis Coull scored off a cross from Anna Gribik, Coull added an assist on a Joyce Kim goal as well.

Wednesday evening (October 20th), the team held their Senior Night with a game against the Punxsuatawney Lady Chucks.

Alexis Coull got Clarion rolling with the first goal, assisted by Julianna WIlson. Anna Gribik added a goal from a Coull cross, the first of 2 goals she would score in the match.

Seniors Evelyn Lerch, Joyce Kim, and Ruby Smith controlled the midfield throughout the first half, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Their hard work was rewarded when each of them added a goal.  Lerch scored a typical “Evelyn” goal, which consists of fighting her way through the defense, beating the last defender, and getting knocked to the ground as the ball hits the back of the net.

Joyce Kim took a set pass from Coull and placed a beautiful curling shot into the right side of the net.  Smith had one of the nicest goals of the season, when she struck a long Gribik cross as it was hitting the grass and hammered it into the Punxy goal.

Senior defensive players Robyn Stahlman and Felicia White neutralized any attacks the Lady Chucks attempted, and started the Lady Bobcat counterattacks with sharp passes into the midfield.

Senior midfielder, Adi Gunter made her first start of the season at forward and did an outstanding job of finding open space and playing crisp passes to her team mates.

When the final horn sounded the Lady Bobcats had earned a well deserved 6-0 victory.
