Bobcats Advances To District Nine Class-A Volleyball Title Match

The Homestanding Clarion Area Bobcats downed Clarion-Limestone 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-16), in the District Nine Class-A Volleyball semifinals, on Tuesday (November 2nd). With the win the Bobcats advance to the championship match against the Oswayo Valley Green Wave, on Thursday (November 4th) at 6:30PM, at Elk County Catholic High School. Oswayo Valley advanced with a 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-14) win against ECC in the other semifinal, on Tuesday.

The first set was close most of the way. But with Clarion up by two, 17-15, Korrin Burns delivered on a kill to break the Lions’ serve, combined with two service points by Noel Anthony, the first an ace, the second with a kill by Aryana Girvan, and the Bobcats’ lead moved to five points 20-15.

The Lions broke serve, but Burns answered with a kill and three service points, the last one with her own kill and the Clarion lead was 24-16. Each side broke service, with Taylor Alston’s kill sealing the win for the Bobcats.

Set two opened with Clarion breaking serve, followed by six straight service points, several of them aces, by Payton Simko, for a 7-0 lead. Later, three points by Girvan, the last two with kills by Burns, moved the Bobcats’ lead to 11-1. Simko served for the final point in the 25-14 win, with Burns finishing it off with another kill.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set, with Girvan serving for three points. Later, three points by Kendall Dunn had the Lions within two at 10-8. But a 5-0 run by Clarion, capped by three points by Jordan Best, moved the Bobcats’ lead to 15-9.

Both teams broke the other’s serve, with Clarion’s coming on a kill from Adia Needham. Simko followed with three more service points. With service exchanges, the score stood at 19-11, Clarion. Dunn then served for three more points for the Lions, cutting the lead to 19-14. But a 5-2 Clarion advantage the rest of the way sealed the set and match, with Needham serving the final two points and Burns finishing it off with a kill.

Simko finished with 15 points (5 aces), 2 kills and five digs, for the Bobcats. Burns had 18 kills, 6 points (2 aces) and nine digs. Girvan had 9 kills, 8 points (1 ace) and a dig. Anthony provided her teammates with 24 assists, to go along with 7 points (3 aces), a kill and a dig.

Best scored 6 points (1 ace), and delivered 3 kills and a dig. Needham recorded 4 points, a kill and a dig. Grace Ochs had 1 point (1 ace) and a dig, Taylor Alston had a kill and Bri Pierce provided an assist.
