Basketball Roundup: Clarion Area Girls And Boys Fall To Union

The Clarion Area Boys and Girls Basketball Teams fell to Union, in Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference action, on Saturday (February 5th), in Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference action.

The Bobcat Boys dropped their contest, at Union, 58-46, while the homestanding Clarion Girls lost 44-25.

Boys’ Game

The Bobcats outscored the Knights 18-10 in the first, but a 15-10 Union advantage in the second, had the score knotted 25-all at the half. Union had a 19-8 third quarter edge, to lead 44-33 heading to the final stanza, where a 14-13 Knights’ advantage set the final.

Christian Simko and Dawson Smail both scored in double-figures, with Christian scoring 18 tying Union’s Payton Johnston for game-high honors and Dawson following with seventeen. Dawson had a pair of three-point buckets. Devon Lauer scored 7 points, with a trey, while Aidan Quinn finished with four.

Two other Knights hit for double-figures, Caden Rainey with 16 and Skyler Roxberry with thirteen.

Clarion is scheduled to travel to Venango Catholic on Tuesday (February 8th).

Girls’ Game

Clarion held a 15-12 lead at the end of the first, but Union came back with a 16-8 edge in the second, taking a 28-19 lead into the half. The Damsels scored 9 points in the third, to up their lead to 37-19 heading to the fourth, and with a 7-6 Union advantage there, the 44-25 final was set.

Payton Simko led the Cats with 10 points, with Becca Ketner adding eight. Noel Anthony had 3 points, with Jordan Best and Taylor Alston contributing two points apiece.

Dominika Logue led Union with a game-high 18 points, which included four treys. Kiera Croyle added nine.

Clarion is scheduled to travel to DuBois Central Catholic on Tuesday (February 8th).
