Baseball: Bobcats Down Gremlins 6-4

The Clarion Area Bobcats downed the Karns City Gremlins 6-4, in the Cats’ season opening game on Thursday (March 31st), at Pullman Park in Butler.

The Gremlins scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Neither team scored in the second.

The Cats scored three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead, but KC put two across in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, 4-3. No runs were scored in the fourth and fifth.

The Bobcats took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. The Cats added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Gary Matus led the Bobcats with three hits in three at bats, a run scored and an RBI. Dawson Smail had a double in three appearances, with a run scored and a run batted in. Bryce Brinkley went two for four with an RBI.

Miller and Cameron Lapinto each singled and scored a run, in a pair of at bats. Chase Kriebel singled and drove in a run in three at bats. Devon Lauer drove in a run and scored once. Noah Harrison scored one run.

Tanner Miller was the winning pitcher.

Malik Metcalfe led the Gremlins with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Bobcats are scheduled to play DuBois Central Catholic at Stern Field in DuBois tomorrow (Saturday, April 2nd), with varsity beginning at 12:30 PM. A Junior Varsity game will follow.
