Roundup (April 28th): Bobcats Baseball Team Downs Keystone, Softball Falls To Keystone, Wolves Track And Field Splits With Warriors

The Clarion Area Baseball and Softball Teams and the North Clarion Track and Field Teams all saw action on Thursday (April 28th).

The Bobcats Baseball Team downed the visiting Keystone Panthers 12-2, in five innings at Clarion County Park. The Softball Team also hosted Keystone, falling 10-3 at Paul A. Weaver Field. The North Clarion Track and Field Teams had a split with visiting Moniteau. The Boys won 108-42, while the Girls lost 76-74.

Baseball: Clarion 12 – Keystone 2 (five innings)

The Bobcats opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. The Panthers answered with two runs in the top of the second for a 2-1 lead. Clarion held Keystone scoreless the rest of the way, while they pushed three across in the third, another in fourth and sealed the game with seven in the fifth.

Cameron Lapinto had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Cats. Devon Lauer singled, scored twice and drove in three runs. Ryan Alston had a pair of hits, scored a run and had an RBI.

Dawson Smail singled and scored twice. Derek Smail had a hit and scored three runs. Tanner Miller singled and scored. Noah Harrison drove in a pair of runs and Bryce Brinkley scored a run.

Devon Lauer picked up the win, going 3 2/3 innings, giving up no runs and only one hit. He struck out four and walked one. Ryan Alston worked 1 1/3 innings and picked up three strikeouts. He walked two, while giving up two runs, neither of them earned.

Chaz Renninger had two hits and drove in a run for the Panthers.

The Bobcats are scheduled to host Karns City on Monday (May 2nd).

Softball: Keystone 10 – Clarion 3 (eight innings)

The Bobcats scored two in the first and another in the third for a 3-0 lead. But with a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh the Panthers tied it at 3-all, sending the game to an extra inning. The Panthers scored seven unanswered runs in the eighth, sealing the win.

Bri Forrest singled and drove in a pair of runs for the Bobcats. Payton Simko homered. Emilie Troese singled twice. Hadley Campbell had a triple. Jordan Best and Noel Anthony both scored a run.

Natalie Bowser had three hits for the Panthers, while Gabby Wolbert and Rylie Colligan had two hits apiece.

Clarion is scheduled to travel to Karns City on Monday (May 2nd).

Track and Field

Boys: North Clarion 108 – Moniteau 42

Kaine McFarland was a quadruple winner, claiming three individual events, the 800, 1600 and 3200, while teaming with Aiden Thomas, Parker Evans and Dane Sliker to win the 3200 relay. Patrick Young won a pair of individual events, capturing the 400 and discus and teamed up with Bailee Verdill, Dane Sliker and Dawson Hotchkiss for the win in the 1600 relay.

Kaoz Baker was a double winner, capturing the shot put and javelin.

Allen Johnston won the 100 and joined Hotchkiss, Noah Naser and Owen Shaffer on the victorious 400 relay team.

Verdill took first place in the triple jump.

Girls: Moniteau 76 – North Clarion 74

Evelyn Lerch was a quadruple winner capturing the 100 and 200, while being part of two victorious relay teams. She joined Bella Scott, Sophie Babington and Brynn Siegel to win the 3200 relay and with Taylor Sherbine, Olivia Siegel and Kylie Disney to claim the 400 relay.

Emalie Best had a pair of individual victories, taking the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Siegel won the 3200 and Sophie Babington won the 800.

Scott, Sophie Babington, Kaitlyn Guth and Gia Babington joined for the win in the 1600 relay.

Rebekah Ketner captured the discus.

North Clarion is scheduled to compete in the Franklin Invitational on Saturday (April 30th).
