Baseball: Bobcats Fight Hard In Eight Inning Loss To Lancers, Head To District Nine Playoffs

The homestanding Clarion Area Bobcats Baseball Team dropped a hard fought 15-10 eight inning, non-conference game to the General McLane Lancers, at Clarion County Park on Thursday (May 19th).

The Cats opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. Both teams put three runs across the plate in the second, giving Clarion a 6-3 edge. But the Lancers scored five runs in the third for an 8-6 lead. The Bobcats put up two runs in the fourth tying the game at 8 runs apiece.

The sixth inning saw General McLane scoring two runs and Clarion with a single run. A run for the Cats, in the seventh, tied it once again, sending the game to extra-innings, 10-10. But the Lancers posted five runs in the eighth, to set the final.

The Bobcats, who outhit the Lancers 14-10, had five players who hit doubles, Cameron Lapinto, Derek Smail, Dawson Smail, Noah Harrison and Dauntae Girvan.

Lapinto also had three singles, scored three runs and drove in two runs. Derek Smail added two singles and scored twice. Dawson Smail also singled and scored a run. Harrison also singled, scored a run and drove in a run, while Girvan also singled.

Devon Lauer had a hit, scored three runs and had an RBI. Gabe Simko, Ryan Alston and Bryce Brinkley each drove in a run.

Ross Morrow had two home runs and six RBIs for the Lancers.

The Bobcats will now move on to the District Nine Class A Playoffs, as the number 2 seed. They receive a first round bye are scheduled to open play next Thursday (May 26th), facing the winner of the Clarion-Limestone – A-C Valley game on Tuesday.
