North Clarion Athletic Director Bonnie Wolbert has been named District Nine 2021-2022 Co-Athletic Director of the Year, along with Bradford’s Michael Erickson.

The recognition was announced during the District Nine Athletic Directors’ and Principals’ Annual Meeting and Luncheon at the Red Fern Banquet Facility in St. Marys on Wednesday, April 13th.

Each year members of the District IX Athletic Directors’ Association nominate fellow members for the award. The award is voted on by all of the Athletic Directors in the District.

Miss Wolbert and Mr. Erickson were presented with plaques by Mr. Peter Grecco, President of the Athletic Directors’ Association.

Bonnie’s plaque read, in part:

IN RECOGNITION OF OUTSTANDING DEDICATION, COMMITMENT AND LEADERSHIP

TO THE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE NORTH CLARION DISTRICT,

AND TO ALL STUDENT-ATHLETES OF PIAA DISTRICT IX MEMBER SCHOOLS.

CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING NAMED THE 2021-2022

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR.

Bonnie shared these thoughts, ” While Mike and I are so appreciative of how our fellow athletic directors see us, we also see how much ALL the athletic directors have had to face many extra challenges in the past few years, whether it be the pandemic, the extreme weather this spring, and/or transportation issues.

“So many District IX schools have a lot more sports than North Clarion and a lot more to organize than I do.  That’s why I try to help others wherever and whenever I can.

“Mike and I are also members of the District IX Committee and are both actively involved with the operation of the Committee, such as working postseason events for multiple sports.  Mike also serves as the Audit Chairman, while I chair the Competitive Spirit Committee and the Sportsmanship Committee.

“We both thank everyone who supports extra-curricular activities at the high school level.  Over the years, thousands of people have heard my speech on senior nights and at banquets. Having been a classroom teacher, a coach, and an athletic director, ‘there is so much to be learned outside the classroom as well as inside the classroom.’ “

Congratulations to Bonnie and Mike on this outstanding recognition!!!!
