Clarion Assistant Coach Jackie Kerle shared her thoughts on the Bobcats play and the hopes for the days ahead:

Yesterday went well!

We set out to win the D9 title again this year and we were able to execute that goal yesterday.

The team had to play in all kinds of weather conditions, but they didn’t let that stop them from posting some solid scores.  We started the tournament with umbrellas up, winter hats on and hand warmers in our pockets. It rained for the first few holes making for some cold wet conditions.

Players meeting prior to Wednesday’s competition

Our team was able to maintain positive attitudes and not let one bad shot or hole ruin their round. Given the wet conditions everyone was bound to have a few chunky shots.

It was how our team reacted to the bad shots that kept us in it. In golf the most important shot is the next shot…forget the bad ones and move on.  I’m happy that they were able to let go of the bad shots/holes and follow them up with some good scores.

Kameron’s tee shot on 16.

I think everyone on our team had at least 1 bad hole which resulted in a bigger number on the scorecard than they would typically have.

All in all, we played some pretty good golf!

Devon had a great round with a 76 and was the lowest scorer for our team and 2nd place overall, after the first round. Kameron had a 78 which was good for 3rd place overall.

Lucas fired an 83, McKayla 85,Tanner 86 and James 98.

On Saturday Devon, Kameron, Lucas and Tanner will compete in the 2nd round. The top 6 kids on Saturday will advance to the state tournament.  I think all of the golfers from our team competing in the 2nd round have an excellent chance of making it to the state tournament.

As a team, we compete next Wednesday, at Ebensburg Country Club in the Subregional Tournament against West Shamokin. The winning team of that match will earn a spot at the state tournament.

We made it to the Subregional Tournament last season and were upset by District 10’s Union City.

I hope this is our year, these kids have dedicated a tremendous amount of time practicing to reach this goal.

(Congratulations on winning the District Nine Class-AA Championship, Bobcats. Have a great round on Saturday, Bobcats and the rest of the golfers who advanced!!!!)
