The Clarion Area Golf Team had a solid showing in the prestigious Midwest Prep Golf Classic, at Meadville Country Club, on Saturday and Sunday, September 17th and 18th.

The Bobcats finished in the middle of the pack, in the field of eighteen, which included schools from three states, Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. A number of the teams were from large private schools.

In addition to Clarion, the schools in this year’s invitational included Cathedral Prep-A; Cathedral Prep -B; Harborcreek, North Canton (OH) Hoover; Hudson (OH); Lake Catholic (Mentor, OH); North Catholic (Cranberry Township); North East; Padua Franciscan (Parma, OH); St. Edwards-A (Lakewood, (OH); St. Edwards-B (Lakewood, OH); St. Francis (Hamburg, NY); St. Marys (Lancaster, NY); University School (Hunting Valley, OH); and Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, OH).

Cathedral Prep-A finished in First Place, with a 627 total.

Clarion finished the tournament with no golfer posting a round higher than a 90 over the two days.

Kam Kerle led the Bobcats with an (81-77) 158. Lucas Mitrosky followed with an (81-86). 167 Devon Lauer finished with an (84-85) 169. McKayla Kerle posted an (82-88) 170. Tanner Miller shot a (90 87) 177.

Clarion Assistant Coach Jackie Kerle had this to say about the tournament: Besides the state tournament, this is the biggest tournament we compete in. The team was up against some really talented golfers from several different states, mainly Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. Many  of the players are from big private schools…not small public schools like Clarion.  We like to expose our team to this kind of competition, as it only pushes them to get better.

Golf is a game where you play to your competition, ( if you don’t let the competition get in your head) and it is great that we have been invited to this tournament the past two years. It’s an excellent experience for our team.

Not all of our golfers played to the best of their ability, but everyone on the team gained some valuable experience and learned how to better play under pressure and not give up.

We didn’t go into this tournament with winning being the goal.  We entered this tournament for the experience and to gain confidence by being able to compete with these other huge schools.

Overall I think we finished 8th out of 16…or 36 strokes off of the lead.

(Thank you to Jackie Kerle for the nice pics and fine quotes!! Fine Work, Bobcat Golfers!!!!)
