Bobcat Grapplers Down Mustangs

(Clarion Head Coach Lee Weber’s comments in Bold.)

The Clarion Area Bobcats hosted the Mercer Mustangs, on Tuesday (January 17th) and came away with a 59-9 victory.

The contest began at 133, where Clarion’s Brendon Wright pinned his opponent in 1:43, to give the Cats a 6-0 lead. Brendon Wright dominated on his feet and won the match with a fall in the first.

There was no match at 139.

At 145, Jacob Henry won by fall in 4:07, moving Clarion’s lead to 12-0. Mason Gourley registered a 15-0 technical fall, in at 3:00 in the match at 152, putting the Bobcats up 17-0. Jacob Henry continues to physically beat up his opponent until they give up.  You expect this from a senior, not a freshman! Mason Gourley didn’t feel his best during the match but you wouldn’t know it as he tech fall a very good Mercer wrestler in the 2nd period.

Clarion’s lead was extended to 23-0, with a forfeit win by Colten Keihl at 160.

Matt Alston lost by fall, at 5:15 of the 172 match. The Bobcats’ lead was now 23-6. Matt Alston gave their veteran 172 pounder all he could handle for 3 periods but fell short at the 5:15 mark.  Matt had a few opportunities to catch his opponent on his back but the lack of experience didn’t allow it tonight.

Gavin Hannold at 189, Logan Edmonds at 215, Josh Beal at 285 and Kaden Ferguson at 107 all recorded forfeit wins moving the Bobcats’ lead to 47-6.

Grayson Aaron pinned his opponent at 114 in 2:15, extending Clarion’s lead to 53-6. The Cats’ lead was extended to 59-6 when Logan Powell won by forfeit at 121. Grayson Aaron also dominated on his feet with 6 takedowns and earned a pin in the early 2nd period.

Seth Weckerly fell 6-0 at 127 and the final was set at 59-9. Seth Weckerly lost only by decision to a kid that manhandled him last year.  Good to see the improvement!

I was pleased with all matches tonight, even more so with the matches we lost!  All other wrestlers received forfeits.

The Bobcats will next compete in the Mercer Individual Tournament this Friday and Saturday (January 20th and 21st.

(Great Job, Bobcats!!!! Have a great tournament this weekend!!!! Thanks to Coach Weber for his comments!!)
