Basketball Roundup: Bobcat Boys Down Keystone, Girls Drop Close Game To Panthers On “Hoops For Hope” Night

The Clarion Area Basketball teams hosted Keystone on “Hoops for Hope” Cancer Awareness and Fundraiser Night on Friday (February 10th), with the celebration taking place between games. (Note: Clarion Sports Zone is planning to post a story on the Hoops for Hope celebration next week.)

The Clarion Boys team downed the Panthers 48-28 in the night’s finale, while the Bobcat Girls lost a one point, 31-30 decision to Keystone, in the earlier contest.

Boys: Clarion 48 – Keystone 28

Devon Lauer and Gabe Simko hit for double-figures, for Clarion, with Lauer delivering a game-high 17 points, while Simko scored eleven. Lauer canned three buckets from beyond the arc.

Bryce Brinkley connected on three treys, in scoring nine points.

Dawson Smail had 5 points, with one basket from downtown. Derek Smail and Dauntae Girvan contributed four and two points respectively.

The Cats led 14-2 after one. Both teams scored 12 points in the second, giving Clarion a 26-14 halftime edge. With a 20-6 Bobcats’ advantage in the third, Clarion led 46-20 heading to the last stanza. The Panthers outscored the Bobcats 8-2 in the fourth to set the final.

Keystone was led by Cole Henry’s eleven points. Drew Keth added nine points, all coming from treys.

Clarion is scheduled to host A-C Valley on Tuesday (February 14th).

Girls: Keystone 31 – Clarion 30

The Panthers led by two, 6-4 after one and with a 6-2 edge in the second, they took a 12-6 advantage into halftime. Keystone again led in scoring in the third, at 12-9 to take a 24-15 advantage to the fourth. The Bobcats came on strong in the fourth, outgunning the Panthers 15-7, but coming up one point short.

Opening tipoff

Taylor Alston led the Bobcats with sixteen points. Gia Babington, followed with 6 points, followed by Sophie Babington’s five points, which included a three-pointer, and Natalie Durish score three points.

Natalie Bowser led Keystone with a game-high twenty points.

Clarion is set to travel to A-C Valley on Tuesday (February 14th).
