Riversharks Have Impressive Showing At CENKEY League Swimming Championships, A Number Of Swimmers Moving On To Pennsylvania Western District Swim Meet

The Clarion County YMCA Riversharks swim team had an impressive showing and once again set several new team records at the 2023 CENKEY League Championships held on Saturday and Sunday, February 11th and 12th, at the Clearfield YMCA. The CENKEY League represents swimmers from ten teams across the Central Keystone Region.

In the Saturday morning session for the 8 and Under Boys, Dylan Space led the team in 1st-6th place finishes by placing 2nd in the 25 backstroke and 100 individual medley, and 5th in the 25 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. Connor Chesterfield also placed 6th in the 25 free. For the Girls, Addyson Space placed 4th in the 100 individual medley and 5th in the 25 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.

In the Saturday afternoon session for the 9-10 Boys, Declan Kelley placed 5th in the 50 backstroke, while achieving a new District qualifying time in the 100 freestyle and 6th in the 50 butterfly. For the Girls, Piper Hoover lead the way with winning the 200 freestyle, and placing 3rd in the 50 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Aubree Conticelli rounded out the 1st-6th place finishes by placing 5th in the 100 breaststroke.

In the Saturday afternoon session for the 11-12 Girls, Ashlyn Clark led the team in points with a remarkable showing by winning the 50 and 100 freestyle, and placing 2nd in the 50 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Samantha Lewis placed 3rd in the 200 breaststroke.

In the Sunday morning session, Clarion’s 13-14 Girls were amazing. Maggie Snodgrass, Callie Snodgrass, Lila Gourley, and Megan Fenske combined to win the 200 freestyle relay. Maggie Snodgrass won the 200 breaststroke, and placed 2nd in the 100 breaststroke and 400 individual medley. Callie Snodgrass won the 100 and 200 butterfly and placed 4th in the 100 freestyle. Lila Gourley placed 2nd in the 100 and 200 freestyle and placed 4th in the 100 backstroke, while achieving District qualifications in all three events. Megan Fenske placed 2nd in the 200 butterfly. For the 15 and over girls, Kathryn Fenske placed 3rd in the 400 individual medley and 5th in the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle.

With the regular season wrapped up, Declan Kelley, Aubree Conticelli, Ashlyn Clark, Callie Snodgrass, Maggie Snodgrass, Lila Gourley, and Megan Fenske have achieved district qualifying times and will swim at the Pennsylvania West District swim meet held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, on Friday to Sunday, March 10th through 12th.
