North Clarion Fares Well At 6th Annual St. Marys Junior High Track And Field Festival

The North Clarion Wolves girls and boys track and field teams had a fine showing at the 6th Annual St. Marys Junior High Track and Field Festival, held at St. Marys High School on Saturday, April 22nd.

Girls Meet

The North Clarion girls team finished fourth in the field. The Top 5 included: 1) DuBois Middle School; 2) Fretz Middle School; 3) Punxsutawney; 4) North Clarion; and 5) Elk County Catholic Middle School.

The Wolves had eight Top 10 individual finishes, seven in the Top 5, with all three relays finishing in the Top 5, as well.

Grace Carroll came up big in the three jumps, winning the long jump, and placing second in both the triple jump and high jump.

Eliza Datko finished second in the 800. Emma Fitzsimmons was third in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the long jump. Ashlyn Clark was fifth in the shot put, while Evalyn Carroll placed ninth in the triple jump.

The 4×800 relay, consisting of Ashlyn Clark, Eliza Datko, Maggie Snodgrass and Callie Snodgrass finished in third place. The 4×100 relay, which included Gabby Howarth, Adeline Best, Emma Fitzsimmons and Grace Carroll finished in fifth, as did the 4×400 relay, comprised of Eliza Datko, Callie Snodgrass, Ashlyn Clark and Lila Gourley.

Boys Meet

The Top 5 Boys teams included: 1) Fretz Middle School; 2) DuBois Middle School; 3) St. Marys; 4) Punxsutawney; and 5) Elk County Catholic Middle School.

The North Clarion boys had three athletes who gathered in seven Top 10 finishes.

Michael Swanson finished fifth in the long jump, sixth in the high jump and sixth in the 110 hurdles.

Jayden Becker took sixth place in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 110 hurdles.

Martin Ormeno had two tenth place finishes, in the 400 and high jump.

Coach Dan Patton had this to say, “I was really happy how everyone performed on Saturday, given the weather conditions. For a lot of these young athletes, this was their first track meet and they came away with a lot of solid performances.

“I am looking forward seeing them all improve over the course of the season.”
