Baseball: Derek Smail Throws One Hitter As Bobcats Down Franklin 13-0, In Five Innings

Derek Smail had a pitching gem as the Clarion Area Bobcats shut out the homestanding Franklin Knights 13-0, in five innings, in non-conference baseball on Friday (May 5th).

Smail went the distance, giving up just one hit and walk, while striking out thirteen, as the Bobcats bounced back from a 4-0 loss to Redbank Valley on Thursday (May 4th). (Tanner Miller and Derek Smail had singles in the game against the Bulldogs.)

The Bobcats scored multiple runs in the first four innings again, with four in the first, two in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth, to account for the thirteen runs.

In addition to the fine day on the mound, Smail also had a big day at the plate, with a single, a double, three runs scored and an RBI.

Brother Dawson Smail doubled and drove in three Bobcat runs. Wyatt Watterson had a double and a single, and drove in a pair of runs. Noah Harrison had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Devon Lauer singled, drove in two runs and scored a run. Tanner Miller had a hit and drove in two runs. Gary Matus singled and scored a run. Mat Alston had a hit and an RBI. Andrew Martz singled and Hayden Weber crossed the plate three times.

The Bobcats are set to host the Clarion-Limestone Lions on Monday (May 8th).
